Snežana Nešić is a composer, accordionist and conductor living in Hannover. She studied at the Academy of Music „P.I. Tchaikovsky“ in Kiev and at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (composition with Prof. Johannes Schöllhorn). Since 2011 she has been a docent for new music and composition at the HMTM Hannover and from 2018 to 2020 she was also a lecturer for contemporary music at the HMT „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ in Leipzig. in the academic year 2014/15 she was also guest professor for composition at the „St. Cyril and Methodius“ University in Skopje (Macedonia).
Snežana Nešić has received composition commissions inter alia from the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, North German Television (NDR), Philharmonie Luxembourg, Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal, Quatuor Quasar, State Opera Hanover and Chamber Opera Cologne. In addition, her compositions have also been premiered with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and as part of the Salzburg Biennale, the Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart, the international theater festival BITEF and with the Opera Company Chants Libres in Montréal. In her compositional work, she works frequently with various forms of opera and music theater and writes her own texts in this regard.
Snežana Nešić won as a composer, among others, the „Andrea Ceraso“ Rome Award, the 1st prizes at the Molinari Quartet’s International Competition for Composition and at the International Composition Competition of the Weimar Spring Days, as well as the award of the International Eisenach Bach Composition Prize 2019. She received a DAAD and the German Academy Rome Composition Scholarship in Casa Baldi and was Composer in Residence at the Goethe House in Rome, the Wilhelm Kempff House in Positano, the German Study Center in Venice and in Montréal, among others.
Also as an accordionist Snežana Nešić won prizes at international competitions (among others the first prizes at the International Accordion Competition Klingenthal and International Accordion Prize of Castelfidardo) and played as a soloist with numerous ensembles and orchestras.
Snežana Nešić is also the artistic director and conductor of the ensemble „ur.werk“. She has worked as a performer with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including, for example, the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg and the Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover, and realized numerous premieres and performances of the works of many other composers. In 2021-24 she will be the artistic director of the program for young composers within the framework of Musik21Niedersachsen.
Currently she is working on a cycle of audiovisual installations („The Artist is Not Present“) and her Augmented Reality Opera (based on the libretto by Tina-Ève Provost) will soon be premiered at the Opera de Montréal.
