Facilities and Hardware

Incontri's fmsbw studios currently comprise an eight-channel teaching studio, a 5.1-channel multimedia laboratory, and a large collection of portable equipment for concerts, recordings, and site-specific installations.

fmsbw's hardware features high-spec computers, loudspeakers, audio interfaces, and digital mixers, supported with the latest versions of the most important audio software, as well as an extensive collection of digital controllers, interfaces, microphones, and both digital and historical analog instruments (including a 1974 Moog synthesizer). Our collection includes cutting-edge, professional-level hardware from Genelec, Neumann, Schoeps, dpa, AKG, Yamaha, QSC, beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Native Instruments, Akai, RME, and Apple, among others.

In 2025, Incontri moved into new, bespoke teaching rooms, each of which focuses on a distincitve element of Incontri's activities in electronic music:

 

Studio I — 8-channel studio

Incontri's primary studio is used for individual lessons and group seminars in electronic music. Hardware highlights include:

The studio also has an "Analog Corner" with both historical and modern synthesizers and mixers, which are linked via a patchbay to the main equipment of the studios:

Additionally, fmsbw maintains a collection of hardware that is available to students for their own composition and performance projects, including for example:

  • audio interfaces (Tascam US 20x20, 16x08, 4x4, 2x2; Presonus 1818, 24C; RME UC, UCX, Fireface 400)

Studio II — New Music Lab (7.1-Channel Analog/Digital Workshop)

Studio II is a hybrid space for analog and digital composition. As part of Incontri's move to its new teaching rooms, the equipment is still being installed as of Spring 2025, but when it is finished, the room will contain a collection of digital and analog instruments combined with a 7.1-channel speaker system and an 85” touchscreen video monitor. The space is designed to be flexible for teaching, rehearsals, workshops, and research.

Studio III — 5.1-channel multimedia studio

Incontri's newest studio, the multimedia studio is part of a major ongoing modernization and expansion of fmsbw's studio network. Hardware highlights include:

Concert equipment

fmsbw and Incontri maintain a large collection of portable equipment for concerts, installations, recordings, and site-specific projects. These are used both for Incontri's own concerts and events, both on campus and across the city of Hannover, and periodically for touring/traveling productions, including for example the Traiect project of the Hannoversche Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (hgnm) and other institutional partnerships.
